Activities for Beginning High School

Many students starting high school feel alone, scared and out of their comfort zone. They have been mixed in with students from several other schools, and they do not necessarily know everyone in their classes. Teachers can use many icebreaker activities to help students feel more comfortable and get to know their classmates. These activities are an encouraging way to begin the school year.

Two Truths and a Lie is an engaging activity for a large group on the first day of high school. Each student should write down two truths about himself and one lie. The student then reads them to the group, and the group must decide which of the three statements is false comfortzone. This helps the students get to know each other in a fun and creative way and helps break down barriers about differences.

This icebreaker is designed for large groups. It is particularly fitting for the first day of high school, because it helps students address and alleviate their fears. Each student writes down one fear on an index card. His name is not attached to this fear comfortzone. Place the index cards in a hat and shake them up. Students take turns picking an index card at random out of the hat. The student must announce the fear she is reading, explain how another person might feel that way, and tell how to overcome that fear.

This activity forces students out of their comfort zones and should be done with the entire freshman class. Take the class into the gymnasium. Each student receives an index card with the name of an animal on it. The students must find all the other students holding the card with the same animal -- but they can find these students only by making that animal's sound. comfortzone When all the groups have been formed, tell the students that these groups will be their homeroom classes.

This activity is appropriate for small individual classes such as a language arts or history class. Students write down their own physical description on an index card. Mix up the index cards and pass them out to the students. Students walk around the class and then write down the name of the person they feel best matches that physical description. This is a simple, yet fun, activity for students to get to know one another.

An Endless Sea of Choices - Chairs!

Have you ever been chair shopping The choices and possibilities are overwhelming. You can find a rainbow of colors, designs and styles. There are office chairs and modern chairs, funky chairs and weird chairs. The choices are endless.

procrastinating Every family should have a time where they can come together at a meal and fellowship about what has happened throughout the day. A dining room is normally the most popular room in the house, you get to sit and gather each others company as well as fill our stomachs. So in order to have a comfy dining area you need a comfy dining room chair to sit in.

Do you know a teenager Every teen wants to be unique, they want to be like no one else. Teens are creative and think of crazy funky designs to be original and different. Teens have bean bag chairs, chairs that look like high heel shoes, chairs made from cinder blocks, the list goes on. Every teen strives to be different.

I have seen a chair made from bowling pins, straight from the bowling alley. I have walked into a dorm room and seen a chair made out of cardboard and cinder blocks with a wooden board across the top. Everyone has their own originality and strives to be different. procrastinating We would classify these types of chairs as a weird chair.

When you go into work for the day, you want to be comfortable. You already know that you are going to be there for more than 8 hours so why not be comfortable comfortzone. You don't want a hard chair which makes your back ache, some people prefer a leather chair and some a big plush vinyl chair. We all have different needs that we want met in order to be comfortable. Is your comfort zone a big plush chair or a reclining chair We all have a different comfort zone.

Each home owner has their own style or decoration technique. Some call themselves modern while some call their style antique. Everyone has their own style which we strive hard to individualize ourselves. There is an array of colors, styles and designs to choose from with modern chairs. It is up to us as a home owner to make our place comfortable so we can call it home.

When you are looking for a new chair for your home, office or apartment you will also find a wide variety of prices anywhere from the low end of under ten dollars up into the thousand dollar range. Each individual knows their price range and I am sure you will be able to find something in your ideal range.

The next time you go into a store to purchase a new chair, let your rear-end do the talking for you. If your buttocks are comfortable and you feel comfortable and the price range fits your budget then you have probably found your chair. You decide what is comfortable for you and what fits your style. Which chair makes you happy.

Dragon Slaying Versus the Comfort Zone To Be or not To Be

Mark Twain said,"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

The story of evolution is a tale of struggle. That's how the first living cell that existed some four billion years ago eventually became man, as we know him today. Struggle is how we came to be and struggle is how we expand and grow. A lesson that we tend to forget stop procrastinating.

Years ago, we had no choice. Man had to fight for his very survival. Things have changed. In today's world it's relatively easy to find a secure niche and vegetate in a seemingly secure environment. However vegetating is not the reason that we placed on Planet Earth. As part of the Grand Scheme of Things, we were placed here to expand and to grow in order to contribute to the continuum of life.

The ultimate purpose of life is to extend life and that can only be done through growth because, in nature, nothing stands still. There is either growth or stagnation and decay. It's a law of physic and it's a law of nature. There is no escaping it. Yet, even though we are aware of that fact, the temptation to try circumvent it and maintain the status quo is prevalent.

The reason that the status quo seems attractive is that it mirrors the promise of security. It is a common belief that the evil that we know is not as bad as the evil that we don't know. There are at least two things wrong with that belief. First it's a false assumption and second it's a very limiting belief.

Efforts are required to keep the physical body fit and challenges are required to keep the mind fit, sharp and expanding. Nothing grows in a vacuum. Opposing forces have to be met, challenged and overcome for growth to happen and that cannot be found in the comfort zone.

Wise men have understood this fundamental truth. That is the reason that most of them are still active and still meeting challenges way past retirement age. The human body does not wear out; it rusts out. The human mind is not weakened through activity; it feeds and expands on it.

Helen Keller said, "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. comfortzone Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. ".

She is right. Nothing is certain and security does not really exist but there is a way of maximizing our chances of being secure and that is by maximizing our personal resources. That is done by meeting challenges, overcoming obstacles and slaying dragons. It's done by meeting life heads on, pushing our faculties to the limits and in the process, expanding and growing.

We come this way only once and every effort should be made to experience all the flavors that life has to offer. That can only be done by traveling the high roads of human endeavors. By becoming all that we can be and by achieving all that we are capable off. That's the secret of a fulfilling life. It's the only way that, when the final curtain falls, no regrets will be there to haunt us. That precious life that was given us will have been lived to its fullest.
